This is a gorgeous pair of Victorian carriage earrings with modern threaders. The style was invented in the 1880s and is exceedingly rare. These are known by a few different names including opera or day to night earrings. The "coach covers", as they are called, are designed to encage and conceal a much more valuable pair of diamond earrings while traveling. Unsnap the covers once you've arrived at your destination and you're ready for the opera. The inner ball earrings are of the same era and have modern threaders for pierced earring wearers.
